Clinical Significance
- Low IGF-I values: children with GH deficiency or hypopituitarism, and who have craniopharyngioma.
- Elevated levels: patients with acromegaly and children with gigantism due to excess of pituitary GH. Puberty, pregnancy, and rare diseases characterized by inability to make or respond to IGF-I produce a distinctive type of growth failure termed Laron dwarfism.
