Clinical Significance
Decreased-viral infections, certain congenital birth disorders, cancer, autoimmune disorders, severe infections, medications, sarcoidosis. Specific causes of low WBC-Aplastic anemia, chemotherapy, radiation therapy,HIV/AIDS, hypersplenism, tuberculosis, Kostmann’s syndrome, Leukemia, Lupus, RA,malnutrition, vitamin deficiencies, myelodysplastic syndromes, myelokathexis. Increased-fight infection, reaction to drugs, disease of the bone marrow, immune disorder that increases production. Specific causes of high WBC-acute and chronic lymphocytic leukemia, acute and chronic myelogenous leukemia, allergy, drugs, infections, myelofibrosis, polycythemia vera, RA, smoking, stress, tuberculosis, whooping cough
